LBMA Responsible Gold Due Diligence

Standard: LBMA Responsible Gold Guidance

Follows the OECD 5-Step Framework for risk-based due diligence.

Step 1 - Establish a management system

Product-level

Policy, accountability, records, and a grievance mechanism for responsible sourcing.

  • Responsible sourcing policy adopted and communicated to suppliers
  • Senior manager accountable for due diligence; internal team resourced
  • Supply-chain information retained on record for at least five years
  • Suppliers contractually committed to the sourcing policy
  • Grievance mechanism available for stakeholders to raise concerns

Step 2 - Identify and assess risk

Product-level

Trace the material and flag risks in the supply chain.

  • Determined whether the gold originates from a conflict-affected or high-risk area (CAHRA)
  • Mine or recycling origin identified and documented
  • Chain of custody from origin to refiner mapped
  • Red-flag suppliers, locations, and transactions reviewed

Step 3 - Respond to identified risk

Product-level

Design and implement a strategy to mitigate the risks found.

  • No direct or indirect support to non-state armed groups or public/private security forces
  • No serious human-rights abuses (torture, forced or child labour) linked to the gold
  • AML/CTF controls applied; no money laundering or fraudulent misrepresentation of origin
  • Applicable taxes, royalties, and fees paid to government
  • Risk-mitigation measures implemented and monitored

Step 4 - Independent third-party audit

Party-level

An external auditor verifies the due-diligence practices of the actors in the chain. Attach the audit, or record a documented gap.

  • Independent third-party audit of supply-chain due diligence completed
  • Audit scope covers this material and its upstream actors

Step 5 - Public reporting

Party-level

Due-diligence efforts are reported publicly, at least annually. Attach the report, or record a documented gap.

  • Due-diligence findings reported publicly (annual report or platform disclosure)
  • Commercially sensitive or security information handled appropriately
